The Secret Garden

When people first view The Secret Garden of Les Bruyeres a sense of wonder washes over them, because from the street no one would ever know that such a tranquil and magical garden was hiding back there.

Open the gite doors or the courtyard entry gate to discover a world of color, with over 30 blooming floral species, a multitude of birds flitting about, and several relaxing, shady spaces to mingle or curl up with a good book.

The large patio features salon seating and a dining table, umbrellas, BBQ and views of this very private space, totally surrounded in Charentaise stone walls or undulating wood fencing.

A long pergola extends the length of two sides of the garden, giving lots of shade because it’s covered in flowering vines in a rainbow of colors in summer.

Look closely to see if you can find the rare Voodoo Lilies hidden in the garden (perhaps near the boy with the water jug statue).

If you are a bird watcher, there are binoculars provided for your enjoyment. Next to the patio is a lively potager garden that we are happy to share with guests, bursting with tomatoes, fresh herbs, salad greens and strawberries in season.

The resident hens live under one side of the pergola, almost totally obscured from view. These gentle souls are very friendly and Ursula the Wonder Chicken is sure to greet you and she always has a lot of things to say so listen closely.

The hens are quiet and there is no smell, so never fear, no crowing allowed in this all female flock. The Secret Garden is sure to surprise you and delight the senses.
